Arnold Schwarzenegger On Death: Says Heaven Is A ‘Fantasy’

Arnold Schwarzenegger has some pretty strong opinions on what he thinks happens once you die. The actor explored what the "future" has in store for us in an in-depth conversation with his Twins co-star, Danny Devito, for Interview Magazine. The 75-year-old former California governor was asked by DeVito about his childhood growing up in Austria, the music he likes, and what happens when we die.

DeVito, 78, asks the Terminator star: "What’s in the future for us? What do you think, in terms of our species? Are we going to last? Tell me, oh great leader." He recalls he has been asked this question before and reiterates his answer: "Nothing. You’re 6 feet under. Anyone that tells you something else is a f---ing liar. We don’t know what happens with the soul and all this spiritual stuff that I’m not an expert in, but I know that the body as we see each other now, we will never see each other again like that."

Schwarzenegger says that when people say things like, "I will see them again in heaven," he disagrees. "We won’t see each other again after we’re gone," he tells DeVito. "That’s the sad part. I know people feel comfortable with death, but I don’t. Because I will f---ing miss the s--- out of everything. To sit with you here, that will one day be gone?"

As DeVito replies, "No!" Schwarzenegger lists his other worldly pleasures. "To have fun and to go to the gym and to pump up, to ride my bike on the beach, to travel around, to see interesting things all over the world. What the f---?" Schwarzenegger says it "truly pisses me off" that we have to die. Getting more into the topic of mortality, he says, "We all know how many people we lose in life, our friends who go, relatives, people we love. As you get older, more and more people around you wipe out."

Revealing that he's lost "15 friends in the last 20 or so years" just from within the bodybuilding industry, Schwarzenegger shared that he's given a new definition to heaven. "To me, heaven is where I put a person who I love dearly, who is kind, who is generous, who made a difference in my life and other people's lives," he said. "I keep them in a spot in my head, like that front row that you have of all of your friends. And you always have a good feeling when you think of them."

The FUBAR star is set to release a new three-part documentary titled Arnold, which begins streaming on Netflix tomorrow, June 7. According to an official synopsis, the docuseries "chronicles never before seen footage and stories of Arnold Schwarzenegger's journey from rural Austria to the highest echelons of the American dream." The series will feature the "most candid interviews from Schwarzenegger, his friends, foes, co-stars and observers." Watch the trailer below:
