Golf is a popular sport enjoyed by many. A diverse community of enthusiasts who appreciate the blend of skill and leisure it offers. But not all cities offer the same golfing experience. To celebrate National Golf Lover's Day on October 4, LawnStarter has ranked the best cities for golfers. Whether you're a seasoned golfer or a beginner, these cities have something unique to offer.

They analyzed the 200 largest U.S. cities across six categories, considering factors like access to golf courses, course quality, golfer communities, and climate using 25 metrics. Each city received scores out of 100 points for these factors, determining rankings within each category and overall. The overall score was calculated by averaging scores across all factors and categories, with the highest score earning the title "Best" (No. 1) and the lowest "Worst" (No. 200).

Las Vegas ranks among the top 5

Las Vegas held the third spot in the overall ranking. The city received recognition for having some of the most public golf courses per 100,000 residents and a high number of amateur golf competitions and tournaments. Other Nevada cities making the list include Henderson ranked at number 33, Reno ranked at 41, and closer towards the bottom of the list, North Las Vegas ranked at 163.

The study highlighted that all cities within the top 10 achieved a ranking of 34th or higher in Premium Course Access. And eight of them secured positions within the top 15. Additionally, these cities received high scores for Course Quality. There were only three of them placing lower than 26th, and five ranking among the top 10.

The best cities for golfers

The top part of the ranking is mostly made up of Southern cities. There were a few exceptions from Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania. The top 5 best cities for golf are Scottsdale, Arizona (No. 1), Orlando, Florida (No. 2), Las Vegas, Nevada (No. 3), Cincinnati, Ohio (No. 4), and Savannah, Georgia (No. 5).
