Police Officer Awarded For Arresting Drunk Drivers Gets Busted For DUI
A cop in the Sacramento area that had previously been awarded by MADD for his work in arresting drunk drivers was just busted for DUI.
According to this report, the California Highway Patrol arrested Raymond Barrantes on suspected DUI. Barrantes had been working for the department for approximately nine years, and was currently assigned as a patrol officer before the arrest.
A photo is posted on the police department’s Facebook page from back in April 2015 that shows Barrantes receiving an award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). According to the caption of the photo the award was for having the most DUI arrests in the agency.
Barrantes is on leave while the department investigates.
There is no excuse to be driving under the influence, but people do it and get busted all the time. The report doesn’t detail what Barrantes blood alcohol level was at the time of the arrest, but as the saying goes, “buzzed driving, is drunk driving.” We hope he learned his lesson and this can serve as a lesson to everyone out there. No one is above the law and driving under the influence can be costly for so many people in so many ways.
