Are Medical Costs Way Too High in Nevada? New State Ranking

Did you know that the cost of healthcare and medical expenses can be very different depending on where you live in America? It's true. Some people even move to a different state in their golden years to find more affordable healthcare options. So, are medical costs way too high in Nevada?

Universal Drugstore, an international prescription service provider, recently set out to find out which states have the most affordable medical costs. They did a study using factors such as the average cost of an ER visit, hospital stay and childbirth, the most expensive surgical procedures, the rate of access to medical care and which states have the highest rates of people who aren't getting the medical attention they need because of the high cost of that care.

The best state in the U.S. for affordable health care, according to this study, is North Dakota. "On average, North Dakotans pay $1,245 to visit the ER, one of the lowest prices compared to other states," the study says of North Dakota. Then, at No. 2 is Iowa, followed by Maine, Vermont and Montana, to round out the top five. As for the worst state for medical costs in the U.S., that's Texas. "The southern state is known for its legendary cowboy culture and large cities, but it has one of the highest costs for an ER visit, at an average of $2,318," the report says of Texas.

As for Nevada, we're actually the No. 3 worst state in America for medical costs, according to this report. So, medical costs are expensive here. That's not great, but hopefully we'll see some improvement in the upcoming years. "The Silver State is the fifth most expensive for ER visits, averaging $2,583," the study states. "It is also the fourth most costly state for giving birth, with expectant parents expected to pay more than $21,000 on average."
