Metallica is many things, including one of the most legendary bands of all time. But are they a "boy band"? According to one four-year-old girl, they are.
This observation comes from model Zach Miko in a video shared on Instagram. Miko says, "So, my four-year-old daughter has very eclectic taste in music, and the other day, we were watching a video of a Metallica concert. And she goes, 'Daddy, are there any girls in this band?' And I said, 'No, baby, there aren't.'"
He continues, with a bemused expression, "And she goes, 'Oh, so it's a boy band?'" Miko pauses and says with a smile, "Yes. Yes, they are a boy band. And they shall hereby be known as a boy band today and forever after."
Miko playfully captioned the video, "A lot of metal bands are boy bands. #metal #metallica #music #fyp #kidssaythedarndestthings #boyband #girldad"
Many Instagram users were rather tickled by Miko's daughter's comments. One user wrote, "Metallica...my favorite boy band, is what I always say." Another wrote, "I mean...she's not wrong."
Obviously, this child is being quite literal with the definition of "boy band," but the idea of Metallica being considered a "boy band" is, objectively, very funny. Frankly, sometimes, we all just need a playful laugh to get through the day, so I applaud Miko for sharing this sweet moment he had with his daughter.
Does Metallica Tour Enough? Kirk Hammett Doesn't Think So
While boy bands have historically toured a lot, Metallica hasn't in recent years. It's a topic guitarist Kirk Hammett addressed last month on The Metallica Report podcast.
Hammett said, " ... I'm happy having the feeling of, like, Metallica is a working, touring band, 'cause sometimes I miss that feeling, 'cause I don't believe we tour enough."
He added, " ... 'Cause this is what it's all about, is playing guitar and writing, recording, going out on tour ... I don't feel that there's enough of it in my life right now."
If we're talking "right now," Metallica is in the middle of the 2024 leg of their M72 world tour. The iconic metal band just wrapped up their dates in Europe, and they'll return to North America in August with their first two-night stand taking place August 2 and 4 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Metallica is one of the most revered bands of all time with a catalog any up-and-coming band could only dream of having. It's impossible imagining the rock/metal landscape without them.
With this in mind, we did a deep dive on the mighty Metallica catalog focusing only on albums/EPs with new material (sorry, Garage Inc.) but excluding Lulu, their infamous 2011 collaboration with Lou Reed for obvious reasons (not sorry about that.)
