Green Day And Other Bands Who Have Made Bad Comments About Las Vegas
Why does Green Day hate Las Vegas? Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong recently made some negative comments about Sin City while performing in San Francisco.
It seems to be his effort to offer encouragement to the Bay Area because they’re losing the Oakland A’s to Las Vegas. The team will be playing in Vegas starting in 2028 and will play in Sacramento until then. They recently played their final game at The Oakland Coliseum. However, the team leaving isn’t Las Vegas’ fault! Don’t tell that to Armstrong, though. Of course, he’s not the first rock star to make negative comments about Vegas.
Does Green Day Hate Las Vegas?
During a recent show at Oracle Park, the Green Day lead singer had some choice words about the Oakland A’s owner, John Fisher, regarding his decision to relocate the team to Las Vegas and move out of Oakland. During the show, Armstrong declared, “I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst s—hole in America.” Really? REALLY?!
The band has performed in Las Vegas several times since they started making music in 1987. The city has always showed up and given the band nothing but support! They even played a “not so top secret” show at the Fremont Country Club last year. They didn’t seem to be shouting about their hatred of Las Vegas back then. Everything seemed fine until the A’s leaving Oakland came closer and closer. This has been known for a long time! It wasn’t just announced or anything like that.
Now, I understand wanting to show support to your fans in San Francisco. Bash the owner! Say anything you want about him and his choice to take the team out of the city. However, you don’t need to bash Las Vegas! The city is innocent in all of this! Taking it all out on Sin City is not a good decision. Especially when Green Day is probably a few years away from wanting a Las Vegas residency. They’re going to be changing their tune very quickly when that day comes. Not every band can make it on their own forever! Bands like The Eagles and The Dead have recently had residencies in Las Vegas. Styx will have one of their own soon too. The day is coming for Green Day! It might not be next year but it’s coming.
What do you think about all of this? Is it just a singer trying to relate to their current crowd that’s right in front of them? Or does he really hate Las Vegas? Will you buy tickets the next time they come to town or will you let that pass? There are decisions to be made!
Who Else Has Made Negative Comments About Las Vegas?
Green Day isn’t the only band to have bad feelings about Sin City. You’d think most would love it and appreciate it. It’s great for the rock and roll lifestyle! Sex, drugs, rock and roll–that’s Vegas, baby! Armstrong might be the most recent but he’s not the first. According to Reddit, Conor Oberst, formerly of Bright Eyes, previously said that Vegas is where musicians go to die! That’s not very nice!
