Las Vegas Sports Teams Add 7 New Mascots Since 2017
Since 2017, professional sports in Las Vegas have exploded, with seven mascots joining the mix. The NHL’s Golden Knights started it all by bringing in Chance, a lovable Gila monster, back in October 2017.
The choice of this scaly friend wasn’t random. Being a Gila monster, Chance represents Nevada’s native desert wildlife. Between games, he keeps busy cruising around town, treating lucky fans to free gas and other cool surprises.
When the WNBA’s Aces moved to town, they introduced Bucket$—an energetic black-tailed jackrabbit with personality. This bouncing bunny earned the title of Mascot of the Year in 2022, just as the team won its first professional championship.
Baseball fans got a double treat in 2019 when the Aviators (previously the 51s) introduced both Spruce the Goose and Aviator at their beautiful new Summerlin stadium.
“Although Spruce, Bucket$, and Chance each work for separate organizations, they share the same job description: They are conductors and ringleaders of the field, court, and ice, responsible for entertaining fans and keeping them engaged in the game,” writes Lourdes Trimidal for the Desert Companion.
When the Raiders moved to Vegas from Oakland, mascot Raider Rusher came along. This mascot star, who first appeared on Nickelodeon’s “Rush Zone” in 2013, spends time making kids smile at community events and local schools in addition to entertaining fans at games.
The Lights FC brought in two crowd-pleasers: Cash the Soccer Rocker and a real-life llama named Dollie-Llama. Cash honors the Cashman family’s stadium history, while Dollie-Llama welcomes fans with her fluffy charm at home games.
Coming soon, fans can look forward to meeting Stomper; the A’s popular elephant mascot who’s been part of the team since 1902. The fun-loving elephant will make Vegas his new home and recently made headlines by showing up to the Tropicana demolition dressed in full Elvis attire.
As these characters capture hearts across the valley, they’re creating a new era in Vegas sports history. Each mascot brings local spirit into new traditions, making game days more memorable.
