We are all looking forward to spending a relaxing spring day at Desert Breeze Park with you Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24. You and your family now have your invitation to this year’s Tacos & Tamales Festival. Of course, there will be delicious food, lots of family fun, and live entertainment. We’ll be suggesting five tasty tunes to get you in the mood to join in the fun when you scroll down. But first, let’s check out some of the entertainment you’ll be enjoying.

Saturday March 23 Live Entertainment Lineup

On Saturday, catch Vicky Tafoya and The Big Beat. In fact, their Facebook page states this act serves up “a 1950’s-inspired rock ‘n’ roll, doo-wop, and rhythm and blues revue.” Los Shadows will also hit the stage. They are a “Dream Surf Pop” band from San Diego.

You’ll also enjoy the Las Vegas band Los Ataskados. I love how they describe their style of music on their Facebook page. A “PsySkadelic band, with latin and reggae influences.” Another ska band, Skabrones, will be performing as well. Additionally, hard-core ska band La Probeska will be jamming on stage.

The Tacos & Tamales Festival wouldn’t be complete without some great mariachi music. Get ready to celebrate with Mariachi Acero. Then, it’s your Saturday headliners, 8Kalacas, with their healthy serving of “Skacore” music.

Sunday March 24 Features Another Great Day Of Music In The Park

The ska music movement is in full force once again on Sunday. Matamoska from East Los Angeles is a seven-member band which has been around since the early 2000’s. In addition, SkaCore band Muertos Heist from Las Vegas will also perform. Then, a band from Santa Ana, California named The McCharmlys will bring their 1960’s inspired rock ‘n’ roll, doo-wop, and surf-beat tunes to the stage.

Of course, we must have mariachi music again on Sunday, and Mariachi Acero will reprise their act. Your Sunday headliner will be Miami, Florida’s Jason Joshua. He’s “a multi-talented musician, producer, and actor” according to IMDB.com.

All-in-all, it should be two incredible days of delicious food, family fun, and live entertainment at the Tacos & Tamales Festival at Desert Breeze Park. Now, feel free to scroll down and check out five tasty tunes to get you in the mood to spend Saturday and Sunday in the park with X107.5!

• "Saturday In The Park" - Chicago

  This has to be one of my favorite songs from Chicago. I really love bands that use horn sections, and our high school band used to play this song at football games and in parades. Although this song is about a 4th of July in Central Park in New York City, it’s really just a feel good song about doing some people watching on a beautiful afternoon in Any Park, U.S.A. This became Chicago’s first song to reach the top three on the Billboard Hot 100.

• "MacArthur Park" - Donna Summer

  The “Queen Of Disco,” Donna Summer, took this song to #1 for three weeks in 1978. What a powerful voice! Actually, this song was originally recorded ten years earlier by English actor Richard Harris. Of course, his version of the song was really nothing like Summer’s disco influenced version. However, Harris’ version of “MacArthur Park” peaked at #2 in 1968. All of the imagery in the lyrics of the song were things that songwriter Jimmy Webb would see when spending time in MacArthur Park in Los Angeles.

• "On A Sunday Afternoon" - Lighter Shade Of Brown

  When I was working at 99.1 KGGI in Riverside/San Bernardino, California, our radio station played the heck out of this song. It’s just a feel-good tune which samples “Groovin” by The Rascals, “Papa Was Too” by Joe Tex, “La-La (Means I Love You) by The Delfonics, and “Crystal Blue Persuasion” by Tommy James and the Shondells. The hip-hop duo Lighter Shade of Brown hails from Riverside, California, so it became really popular in the Inland Empire. Believe it or not, this tune went to #1 on the New Zealand pop charts! Crazy, right?

• "Groovin'" - The Young Rascals

  This song is sampled in the song “On A Sunday Afternoon” by Lighter Shade of Brown (above). Although this song doesn’t actually mention a park, it sure gives you that relaxed, Sunday with nothing to do except watch the world go by kind of feeling. This became a #1 hit for the blue-eyed soul group, The Young Rascals. It spent a total of four weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. It has been named as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.

• "Another Park, Another Sunday" - Doobie Brothers

  This is one of those great 70s songs that did not receive a great deal of radio airplay. But it really embodies the sound of many songs during that decade. However, it only managed to make it to #32 on the Billboard Hot 100. One of the main reasons for that is because many DJs and radio stations chose to play the B side of the 45rpm single, which was “Black Water.” Eventually, due to all the radio airplay, the record label would end up releasing “Black Water” as an A-side single, and it became the Doobie Brothers first #1 hit.
