Mirage Secret Garden To Close: Saying Bye To Our Mammalian Friends
Las Vegas is saying goodbye to a beloved exhibit: The Mirage Secret Garden.
Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, which has been in operation for three decades, has long been a city staple.
Now, they’re closing their doors for good. This move comes ahead of Hard Rock Hotel’s acquisition of The Mirage property. After much deliberation, a conclusion was reached: the Mirage Secret Garden would be no more.
The exhibit features a variety of lions, tigers and dolphins. The garden has always aimed to educate their audience and, in the words of Mirage president, Franz Kallao and Hard Rock Hotel president, Joe Lupo, “enhance guests’ understanding and appreciation of animals and the environments in which they live.”
Over the years, they’ve been a source of joy for both the local community and visitors. We’d be lying if we said we weren’t a little bit sad.
You might be understandably worried about the animals, but don’t worry! Both hotels are working hard to find them homes where they will be looked after with the care and attention they need.
“Given this decision, we’ve agreed to work proactively together in the months ahead to develop a plan to permanently relocate the animals to new homes where they will continue to be loved and cared for by welltrained, highly respected animal care professionals and veterinary experts.” Kallao and Lupo said in a message to employees.
It’s clear that they have the animals’ best interests at heart. It gives us the warm fuzzies to see industry giants put the safety and needs of their animals first.
For our part, we’re sad to see it go — but we’re excited to see what comes next! It’ll be a hard act to follow, but we’re sure we’ll be wowed.
