Pawsitively Purr-fect: Nevada City Named Best for Cat Lovers
Some people have developed a deep admiration for cats that surpasses their affection for any other animal. A recent study shows that this fondness for cats varies across different cities. Some places show a particularly strong love for these animals. As International Cat Day approaches this month, LawnStarter, a resource for various lifestyle interests, has taken the initiative to rank the cities that shine as havens for cat lovers.
They conducted a comprehensive comparison of the 200 largest cities in the United States, evaluating them based on four key categories. Their assessment includes factors such as the availability of animal shelters, veterinary services, and cat-friendly housing options. Additionally, they considered affordability, along with a total of 15 other indicators that gauge the level of feline-friendliness within each city.
Las Vegas is one of best cities for cat lovers
The study reveals that Las Vegas has claimed a top spot as the best city for cat lovers. Las Vegas stands out as the third top-ranking city, following behind Orlando, Florida (#1) and Knoxville, Tennessee (#2).
While Las Vegas secures a top spot, other cities in Nevada find themselves lower on the list, with Reno ranked at 43, Henderson at 136, and North Las Vegas at 189.
Other findings
Based on the study’s results, it appears that the Southern half of the U.S. is a highly favorable region for feline companions. Almost three-quarters of the top 20 cities belong to this area, and there could be even more depending on the distinction between Northern and Southern states. A majority of these cities, ranging from California to Florida, demonstrated great performance in both Cat Access and Care Access.
On the other hand, the lower end of the ranking comprises a mixture of Northern and Southern cities, with Detroit retaining its position as the last-ranked city. The cities at the bottom collectively received some of the lowest scores across all categories, with only a few exceptions.

I love my kitties. We’ve had a cat or more in our home since I was eleven years old. I didn’t realize how many cool items had come out to make the cats’ life (and mine) better until my daughter got her own cats. At first I was skeptical. “Why do you need all this crap?” The crap quickly became really good ideas: Cat life upgrades for pets and owners. I am officially a convert.
National Pet Day is April 11th, but for many of us, we celebrate our four-legged friends 365 and they rule our roost. They give us their mostly-unconditional love (I am talking specifically about cats after all) and we let them live their best life.
These are some of my favorite kitty upgrade items. The price range is not small. There are items I have and items I want. Wait til you check out the litter robot. Big price tag, but still tempting. Having said that, most items are around 20-30 bucks.
Life-long and new cat owners alike, join me in 2023! Let’s take advantage of some cat life upgrades! Viva las kitties!
