Metallica performed in Munich, Germany on May 24 and almost literally rode the lightning.
The show featured heavy rainfall, but during the last song of the set, which was "Master of Puppets," fans captured some epic lightning that filled the night sky. Coincidently, the lightning seemed to appear at the perfect moment during the classic track's intro, much to the amazement of the crowd.

The May 24 and 26 Munich shows were the kickoff of the 2024 leg of Metallica's M72 World Tour. The band split up their world tour over the course of two years in support of their latest album, 72 Seasons. All upcoming 2024 tour dates and their respective support acts are listed below.

Metallica Approves of Kelly Clarkson ‘Sad But True’ Cover
In other Metallica news: The band recently gave a big seal of approval to Kelly Clarkson.
The singer and inaugural American Idol winner covered "Sad But True" on her talk show aptly named The Kelly Clarkson Show. Clarkson has a regular segment called "Kellyoke" where she covers a wide variety of songs. Notably, this was the first time Clarkson covered a Metallica song.
In addition to YouTube, the performance was also shared via Instagram, where Metallica commented, "Simply amazing. Thank you Kelly!"
Clarkson shouted out Megan Barry, one of the producers on The Kelly Clarkson Show, who's apparently a massive Metallica fan. She added, "We all love Metallica here. I never thought I'd sing Metallica on daytime television; I'm just going to be real with you. But we're doing it and we did it and it was awesome."
There were plenty of people who didn't care for Clarkson's cover, but there were also plenty of people who defended it and were in awe of Clarkson's powerful vocal performance. One commenter wrote, "People can agree or disagree by she freakin' killed it. That was f---ing awesome!"
Another commenter wrote, "Bro, Metallica themselves approves it, this is a great performance, stop the gatekeeping bulls--t."
Meanwhile, one commenter shouted out Clarkson's band, writing, "How about a shoutout for your drummer killing it back there!"
Metallica is one of the most revered bands of all time with a catalog any up-and-coming band could only dream of having. It's impossible imagining the rock/metal landscape without them.
With this in mind, we did a deep dive on the mighty Metallica catalog focusing only on albums/EPs with new material (sorry, Garage Inc.) but excluding Lulu, their infamous 2011 collaboration with Lou Reed for obvious reasons (not sorry about that.)
