A Las Vegas Local’s Favorite Sushi Spots And Recommendations
We definitely recommend checking out Yelp’s list. But, I have a few secret spots that I’ve been gatekeeping.
My first recommendation is Doanburi Premium Sushi and Catering. This spot is truly a gem and serves fresh, high-grade sushi. The takeout eatery shines with the freshness of its sushi. This place is located in a ghost kitchen, and the address is 110 S Rainbow Blvd, Suite 108 Las Vegas, Nevada 89145.
Chef Jae Doan is the mastermind behind this kitchen, and she’s an inspiration for all women chefs in the industry. According to the restaurant’s website, Chef Jae Doan was born in Vietnam and came to America in 2002. Being a women who is a sushi chef can be difficult. The world of sushi chefs is male dominated and there are often outdated beliefs that women have “too warm” hands to handle raw fish.
This article by food publication Saveur explains the degree of gender inequality within the sushi chef world.
Despite the barriers, Chef Jae Doan has innovated and changed the sushi scene in Las Vegas. Her place truly ruins other sushi spots because the quality is immaculate. You get omakase-style and quality sushi for a fraction of the price.
Another spot that many Las Vegas locals adore is The Nori.
This place located 6530 S Decatur Blvd STE 105, Las Vegas, NV 89118. This sushi spot specializes in hand rolls. If you order takeout, the chefs specifically wrap the seaweed in a protective coat of thin plastic, so the seaweed doesn’t get soggy.
You must try the salmon ikura handroll. It’s handroll with rice, succulent pieces of tuna and salmon eggs sponed throughout the rice roll. The blue crab roll is also delicious. The buttery and mayo-mixed blue crab is delicately placed on top of the rice and wrapped in crispy rice. It’s simply divine.
The yuzu scallop handroll is also a delicous and must-try item on the menu. It’s fresh hokkaido scallop with yuzu (a small Japanese citrus fruit), tobiko (fish eggs), chili crisps, garlic and onion.
The best part about living in Las Vegas is the plethora of amazing sushi restaurants we have. So no matter what part of town you live on, you’re bound to find a hidden gem with fresh and delicious sushi!
