Vegas is full of delicious dishes and restaurants but if you have not been to Calabash African Kitchen, you need to! The restaurant combines Senegalese and Gambian food creating a fusion like none other.
The owner, Oulay Ceesay Fisher, had a dream of opening her own restaurant to help spread her culture’s flavorful food. She is from The Gambia which is nearly 100% surrounded (except the part touching the Atlantic Ocean) by West African country, Senegal.
According to their website, they are a “West African restaurant serving Jollof inspired Senegambian cuisine. Where Senegalese Restaurant meets Gambian Food.” Locals and visitors continue to eat at this African kitchen because of their spicing techniques and wood fired grilling.
Their Yelp reviews sit at a 4.5 rating with 245 reviews. A few common comments that many reviewers left were how nice the staff is, how clean the restaurant is and how the ambiance is amazing.
The restaurant does play music and most times has a LIVE DJ. If you’re vegetarian, they have you covered. Our recommendations would be:

- Red Stew “Chu”: Traditional Senegambian tomato-based stew with vegetables that are spiced. Served with one side. (Customers choice)
For our meat eater listeners, here’s what we recommend:
- The Oxtail Stew/Soup: Oxtail that is slow-cooked in a light, spice tomato broth with rice or fufu.
- Didi Afra / Suya “Grilled Meat”: Marinated char-grilled authentic Calabash seasoned meat served with pickled onions, spicy mustard and a small salad. Customers have a choice of meat including chicken, beef or lamb. (Popular) Marinated char-grilled authentic Calabash seasoned meat
