Jada Pinkett Smith Says Chris Rock Asked Her Out On A Date

Jada Pinkest Smith dropped a bombshell about her marriage with Will Smith in a new interview. The Girls Trip actress revealed that she and Will have been separated for seven years. During that time, they contemplated divorce, Chris Rock asked Jada on a date she claims. (This happened before the infamous .)

"He called me and basically he was like, ‘I'd love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren't you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors,’" Jada told PEOPLE.

She says after she cleared up that it was only rumors about a potential split, he was "appalled" and immediately apologized.

Rock has not confirmed if he asked her out. Will has not commented on the separation or date request from Rock.

The Girls Trip actress admitted the reason for the separation, which started in 2016, was that they were "exhausted with trying."

"I think we were both stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be," she said on the TODAY show.

While they might be separated, Jada says they are still working on their marriage.

"We just got deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us."

The couple got married in 1997, and they share two children together: son Jaden Smith and daughter Willow Smith. Will also has a son, Trey Smith, with his ex-wife Sheree Zampino. They got divorced in 1995 after three years of marriage.

It came as a total shock to viewers when Will walked on stage and slapped Rock. The comedian made fun of Jada's baldness and compared her to Demi Moore's character in  G.I. Jane. Will has since been banned from The Academy for 10 years for his actions.

Jada Pinkett Smith is an actress, talk show host, and producer. The Baltimore native came from humble beginnings and was raised primarily by her mother and grandmother. Her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, saw that she was interested in entertainment at a young age and eventually got her to start applying her skills in the early '90s. The show shifted direction to Guy and Hardison's characters Whitley and Dwayne.

In addition to having a successful film career, Pinkett Smith pivoted to becoming a talk show host. She hosted Red Table Talk with her mother Banfield-Norris, and daughter, Willow Smith, representing three generations. The show was canceled along with Facebook Watch's other shows earlier this year. However, she told PEOPLE in June that the show will "definitely" be making a return.

The series was a spin-off from The Cosby Show; it originally followed Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) and after her departure, focused on Whitley Gilbert-Wayne (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Cleophus Wayne (Kadeem Hardison). Jada's role as Niobe in The Matrix franchise was the first time she appeared in a blockbuster film. The three films Reloaded, Revolutions, and Resurrections follow the original 1999 classic.
