Ann Wilson on How Heart Used to Steal Food From Bachman-Turner Overdrive
Ann Wilson and Heart are rock icons now, but there was a time when they were literally starving artists. Sometimes, desperate times call for desperate measures.
Wilson recalled in a new interview with Classic Rock how one of Heart’s first big gigs as a band was opening for Bachman-Turner Overdrive. However, even big gigs, when you’re first trying to become a rock star, can be lean. So, in order to really cash in on their opportunity, Heart actually would wait until BTO left their dressing room for the evening, and they would then steal all of their leftover food.
Wilson said, “They had a Thanksgiving spread in there every night; they were living the high, those guys, and it impressed us so much ’cause we were just these little starving musicians. We would go in there and eat the turkeys and whatever else we found.”
As fate would have it, the recently rebooted BTO is joining Heart on the road again in 2024. This time around, though, BTO will be opening for Heart. The Canadian icons will be joining Heart on the road on the following four dates:
Nov 24 – Winnipeg, MB – Canada Life Centre
Nov 27 – Saskatoon, SK – Sasktel Centre
Nov 29 – Edmonton, AB – Rogers Place
Nov 30 – Calgary, AB – Scotiabank Saddledome
