NFR Staying In Las Vegas Through 2035, Raising The Stakes
Yee-haw! Great news coming today from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and the National Finals Rodeo today. With the NFR staying in Las Vegas for at least the next decade and then some, this is sure to be big for the riders, fans and city alike.
Giddy Up! NFR Staying In Las Vegas Is A Huge Win
There was certainly some disappointment when the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) left Las Vegas for Texas in the wake of COVID closures in 2021. The city served as the home for the championship for nearly three decades. There go half of the cowboy hats… would the National Finals Rodeo follow suit? After all, the event was moved to Texas in 2020 for a year.
Thankfully, they didn’t stay there.
The announcement from the LVCVA announced the biggest rodeo events in the world will be staying in the valley through 2035. NFR staying in Las Vegas helps bolster visitor numbers in December massively.
The other thing that is massive? The prize purse that will be offered up to riders over the next 11 years. The event is planning on increasing the stakes for competitors and horse owners alike. Las Vegas Events, who works hand in hand with the Las Vegas Convention And Visitors Authority, are chipping $2.6 million over the next two events into the pot.
When all is said and done, the prize purse is expected to increase $1 million per year over the next decade. By then, the event could be happening inside the Las Vegas Athletics stadium.
With NFR staying in Las Vegas, the city has locked up one of the most major draws to the city. In 2022, the event brought in nearly 175,000 people who were in town for the showdown, the shows, the shopping and the scene.
