Las Vegas Aces Star Breaks WNBA Single-Season Scoring Record
A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces has broken the WNBA single-season scoring record! This has been a huge year for the league.
It seems like there has been more conversation about the WNBA in a positive light this year than ever before. There was Caitlin Clark’s anticipated rookie season that didn’t disappoint. She’s been incredibly impressive as a professional. Then, Angel Reese also made a name for herself during her rookie season smashing several records on her own. Now, Wilson has broken the WNBA single-season scoring record!
Las Vegas Aces Star Sets Impressive Record
It’s been a great year for the WNBA and hopefully they can keep that going for years to come. I think they’ll be able to with all the talent in the league and on their way. 2024 has been a great step forward for women’s professional basketball.
The Las Vegas Aces superstar set the record against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in Wednesday’s 86-75 road win. A free throw in the 1st quarter tied the record (939) set by Seattle Storm’s Jewell Loyd last year. Later that quarter, she hit a jumper giving her the record all by herself. She ended up with 27 points in the game taking her season total to 956, per CNN. Now, if she can just manage 11 points per game for the rest of the regular season, she has a chance to become the first player in WNBA history to score 1,000 points in a single season. That would be huge and would be the cherry on top of a successful season–not only for Wilson but for the entire league.
After the game, CNN reports Wilson said, “It’s a blessing, it really is. It’s something that I don’t take for granted. We have some phenomenal players in this league, so for my name to be in the list, it’s truly a blessing.” As a competitor, you have to imagine she liked setting the record against Clark and her team which has received a lot of attention during the season. Wilson is regarded as one of the best, if not the best, player in the league and she’s letting that be known. Wilson went on to credit her teammates for her accomplishment and setting the record. Will Wilson now lead the Las Vegas Aces to a championship? According to Covers.com, they have the 2nd best odds to win it all at +270 behind the New York Liberty (+110).
