What Happened Between Las Vegas Aces Head Coach Becky Hammon And Kelsey Plum?
What happened between Las Vegas Aces Head Coach Becky Hammon and Kelsey Plum? Coach was seen going at Plum on the bench during a timeout and it looked heated!
Coaches are not supposed to be your friend. They’re there to inspire and motivate the players to perform at their highest level. Sometimes that might require you to buddy up to them, other times that might require them to do some yelling. Whatever it takes to get the message through. It can vary from player to player, so you might have a unique way to approach each individual. Hopefully, Las Vegas Aces player Kelsey Plum doesn’t mind being pointed at and yelled at. That’s what happened!

Unfortunately, the Las Vegas Aces hopes of a 3-peat came to an end after being eliminated by the New York Liberty. It’s a disappointment but completing a 3-peat is incredibly hard to do! There’s no reason to hang any heads. The Liberty are a fantastic team and are most likely going to end up winning it all. However, it’s not all about the loss. There’s now video going viral online showing the team’s coach screaming at Kelsey Plum and getting in her face.
Plum is one of the team’s better players and is one of the more recognized players in the league. Probably not a great idea to single her out and make her feel bad. Check out that viral video below for yourself that was shared on X (formerly Twitter). How would you feel if your coach did this to you?
She is really giving her the business! In the video above, you can see Coach pointing her finger directly at Plum, right in her face, during a timeout and she looks heated. The Aces ended up losing the game 88-84–it was a close one. Maybe the team could have completed the victory if they were feeling properly motivated. I’m not sure how I’d feel if a coach did this to me with the game on the line. How about you call some good plays and get out of my face?
Granted, it wasn’t Plum’s best day on the court. She ended up going 2-9 from the floor that game and finished with only 6 points in 27 minutes. Okay, that might explain why the coach was right in her face, but it’s still not the best optics, especially for one of your star players. There’s no word on what she was saying during the timeout but she let it be clear how she was feeling after the game. Coach Hammon said, “Quite frankly, we haven’t had the edge all year. We found it the last month, I feel like we’ve gained a lot of ground. But the feel was different from the jump, and this is why three-peating is hard, let’s be real,” per Yahoo! Sounds like she never believed this season was going to end in another championship. You might enter the season with a different mindset after going back-to-back championships. You might be extra relaxed after a lot of celebrating and you could lose that hunger to win, that’s understandable. Hopefully, Coach Hammon will just motivate them to come ready to play next season.
