Kim Kardashian is getting candid about the struggles she faces as a single parent. Kardashian, 42, shares four children with her ex-husband Kanye West: North, 9, Saint 7, Chicago, 5, and Psalm, 4. In a new interview, the SKIMS founder compared what she thought parenting would be like before she had kids and now what it's like.

Though Kim finds some alone time between all the "madness" in the early hours of the morning and after her kids have to bed, she admits that the "days are long and the years are short." Detailing that "you have no idea what's going on" in the mornings, the Kardashians star adds, "It's like I always have to do one of my daughter's hair — and it has to be perfect, and it has to be a certain way. And then this one needs me to put his shoes on, and they all need you."

Continuing to speak candidly about her role as a mother, Kim said, "Parenting is the thing that has taught me the most about myself. It has been the most challenging thing. There are nights I cry myself to sleep. Like, holy s---, this f---ing tornado in my house. Like, what just happened?" Noting that there is no one there besides her, she added that she has to play "good police officer and bad cop." Though she is working on "being a little bit firmer" as a parent, Kardashian couldn't help but admit, "Parenting is really f---ing hard."

Highs and Lows

"That's the only way I can describe it," she said, adding that it is the "most rewarding job in the entire world." Kim said nothing can prepare you for being a parent, no matter how long you wait. "But you will figure it out," she continued. "And it will make you so proud of yourself that you figured it out and that you got through the day."

Getting real about the nighttime routine at home, Kardashian said, "If a tantrum comes in, oh my God, your life is completely upside down. But it teaches you so much more about yourself than I think anyone, any parent, could have ever anticipated." She added that there are nights you don't wash your hair and you have "spit up all over you and you're wearing the same pajamas." With all of the challenges and hardships Kim faces as a mom, she wouldn't change it for anything. "It is the most challenging, rewarding job on this planet," she said.
