9-Year-Old Girl Killed in North Las Vegas DUI Crash Caused By Aunt
A nine-year-old girl died after a deadly car crash happened on Saturday, Aug. 3 in North Las Vegas, according to multiple media outlets.
63-year-old Christina Sorensen was the driver of a gray Chevrolet Corvette, according to Channel 13. She was turning left on Ann Road during a red light, and a Jeep SUV crashed into the Corvette. The North Las Vegas Police Department also said Sorensen was “emotionless,” and she couldn’t confirm if her traffic light was red or green.
“Christina Sorensen, 63, faces charges of DUI resulting in death, child abuse and reckless driving following the crash at Ann and Simmons in North Las Vegas Saturday afternoon,” Fox 5 reported.
The alleged North Las Vegas DUI crash killed nine-year-old Sophia Sandoval of Porterville, California, who was Sorensen’s niece, Fox 5 reports. The paramedics took her to UMC Pediatrics where she died.
Sorensen Showed ‘Signs Of Impairment,’ Arrested On Multiple Charges Including DUI
The crash happened at the intersection of Simmons Street and West Ann Road. Channel 13 reported that Sorensen showed signs of “impairment,” during the field sobriety tests. However, her breath sample did not show traces of alcohol.
“NLVPD wrote that they suspected she might be under the influence of drugs, including possibly prescription medication. Sorensen agreed to a blood draw, and police obtained a warrant as a precaution,” 8 News reports.
A judge set Sorensen’s bail to $100,000 on Monday with high-level monitoring, drug testing and no driving, Fox 5 reports.
