Barnes And Noble Town Square Location Now Open
There are certain things that feel like they are part of a bygone era. Blockbuster Video is gone (as too is Redbox), Sam Goody stopped selling overpriced CD’s years ago, and Barnes And Noble is a goner… right? Nope. Turns out the Barnes And Noble Town Square location just opened today.
Walking around Town Square Park, you can’t miss the looming Barnes & Noble Booksellers sign. At first glance you couldn’t help but wonder if it had been there all along and we just ignored it, given their inevitable collapse, but no. The Barnes And Noble town square location swung its doors open officially today.
To put it in perspective, the last time a new Barnes And Noble opened in the valley was 2008. The entire company was picked up by a hedge fund for well under a billion dollars 5 years ago, and if you follow the money you’ll know that’s what did in Toys ‘R’ Us. Saddle the new company with debt and watch it drown and take bad assets with it.
Barnes And Noble Town Square Location One Of Several Opening This Month
But that isn’t what happened in this case. Elliott Management have totally renewed the brand and nine other locations are opening just this month alone.
The company has seen a resurgence as of late, with newly redesigned store interiors and a renewed sense of purpose. A world without bookstores is a world far less worthy of our time. Books are education, they are imagination and are necessary to a free society. Access to them are equally as important. So anything that gets people closer to the written word, we are all for it.
We do love our locally owned bookstores and this isn’t a replacement for them. That said, we can’t help but cheer a little, rooting on this former behemoth with the new Barnes And Noble Town Square location. Here’s hoping their rebirth story doesn’t end up in the fiction section.
