The Best of The Sick New World Lineup
Well, it was announced. Sick New World is coming to Las Vegas on April 14 and the lineup is, well, sick.
But that is nothing new. The Sick New World lineup is probably one of the best day-long festivals in the country for anyone who likes to hear fun, loud, and heavy music. And thankfully it’s in my backyard.
And sure, Metallica with a newly revamped Linkin Park are quite the headliners. It is worth the price of admission alone, but there are some fun nuggets in this year’s lineup worth mentioning as well.
The Sick New World Lineup Is OG
It’s not just Metallica and Linkin Park that are the nostalgic part of The Sick New World Lineup. Evanescence and Queens of The Stone Age have been around for a minute as well.

But then there’s some serious OG on the lineup like Sponge. These guys hit big in the early to mid-90s with alternative radio staples like “Molly (Sixteen Candles)” and my favorite “Plowed.” Definitely a good reason to come early.
Then there’s the late 90s early 2000s Indutrial-Metal-Core-Nu-Metal-Who-cares-what-we-call-it-its-just-good Like Ministry, Stabbing Westward and Filter. Also, on the bill, is a band that is becoming a Sick New World Mainstay, Static X.
Sick New World is filled with a diverse sound. For example, the rock/pop/reggae of 311 but also some OG punk, and not just pop punk like AFI, but the originators of the LA Punk scene in the early ’80s, X. “Los Angeles” and “Blue Spark” are on the soundtrack of my high school party days. “Wild Thing,” however, is the song that put the band in the national spotlight.
There are so many artists to talk about on this lineup. Quite frankly, every year has a band that stands out and makes me want to get down there early. Last year that was Danny Elfman. I couldn’t wait to hear Oingo Boingo songs and all of his scores like “The Simpsons,” and “Nightmare Before Christmas.”
This year that band is Sisters Of Mercy. They are old-school Goth pop-metal that inspired so many during that time and for years after.
I — for one — can’t wait to be immersed in a Sick New World once again,
