How Much Money Does It Take To Live Comfortably And Happy In Las Vegas?
There’s no doubt about it. Our wages and salaries just aren’t keeping up with inflation. Many Las Vegans are struggling to make ends meet. With that in mind we’re reviewing the latest information for the wages you need for living comfortably in Las Vegas.
Annual Salary You Need For Living Comfortably In Las Vegas
According to an article by Jaclyn DeJohn on SmartAsset.com, a single adult in Las Vegas needs to earn an annual salary of $94.432 dollars. For a typical 40-hour work week, that averages out to $45.40 per hour. That’s a lot of cash just for living comfortably in Las Vegas. However, that number ranks just below the national average of $96,500.
These figures reflect the “50/30/20 budget rule.” Smart Asset recommends you spend 50% of your earnings on necessities such as housing, utilities, groceries, transportation and the like.
Secondly, 30% of your salary goes for things you want. We’re talking about fun stuff such as entertainment, dining out, vacations, etc.
Finally, 20% of your wages should go towards paying off debt and adding to your savings and retirement.
So, how much does a family of four need for living comfortably in Las Vegas? According to DeJohn’s article, two working adults and two children require $239,366 per year.
It’s interesting to note that out of the top 99 major cities in the U.S.A., Las Vegas ranks 50th for wages needed to live comfortably. Right in the middle. Not great. Not the worst.
The Least Expensive Cities In America For Singles And Families
Surprisingly, the least expensive city in the nation for a single adult or family of four to enjoy a comfortable life is Houston, Texas. A single adult needs to earn just over $75,000. Furthermore, a family of four requires $175,219.
In fact, four of the top 10 most inexpensive cities in which to live are in the Lone Star State. El Paso, Laredo, and Lubbock Texas all make that list. Two cities in Ohio make the top 10 including Toledo and Cleveland.
The Most Expensive American Cities In Which To Live Comfortably
As you might expect, New York City is absolutely the most expensive city in which to live comfortably for singles and families. A single adult needs to earn $138,570 per year. Similarly, a family of four requires $318,406.
Would it surprise you to learn that seven of the 10 most expensive cities in the country for living comfortably are in California? I wasn’t surprised by that fact either.
The Golden State’s most expensive locales for expensive living include San Jose, Irvine, Santa Ana, San Diego, Chula Vista, San Francisco, and Oakland. No wonder so many Californians are choosing to move to Nevada. Living comfortably in Las Vegas appears to be much easier than making it happen in California.
