Tropicana Casino Implosion: When Las Vegas Icon Will Drop
The Trop is about to drop. We now have a better idea as to when the Tropicana Casino implosion will take place, and it is only a few months away.
On Thursday, the company hired by Bally’s Corporation, owners of the Tropicana Las Vegas, filed documents with Clark County seeking approval to drop the Trop. More specifically to perform an “implosion of the 22-story reinforced concrete Tropicana Club Tower and the 22-story structural steel Tropicana Tower in a single explosives event.” Sounds fun.
According to the documents, they’ll be setting up for the Tropicana Casino implosion by late September with an implosion set for no later than Tuesday, October 8th. They’ve been carefully piecing apart the property over the last several weeks after the property’s closure in April. If you haven’t looked in a while, here’s a gander.
What Is The Tropicana Casino Implosion Making Room For?
In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Oakland Athletics are moving to Las Vegas. At least, they are saying they are moving to Las Vegas. The stadium is set for the corner of the Las Vegas Strip and Tropicana and while the Tropicana casino implosion will make room for that, there are some doubters.
Renderings of the proposed casino changed, resulting in a questionable new rendering. Financial issues are rumored to be causing an issue with the owners of the Athletics. The teachers union is against the public financing part of the deal. Not to mention that Bally’s Corporation is having financial issues of their own and may not have the funding to open a casino next to the stadium as planned.
There are still a lot of moving pieces when it comes to the plan, but one thing is for sure: the Tropicana Casino implosion will be moving what is left of the property down to the ground.
