Las Vegas High School Student Suffers Second Degree Burns After Football Practice Punishment
A Las Vegas high school student suffered second-degree burns at football practice after his coach made the team do something he most likely wouldn’t have done himself.
Wendy, the grandmother of a Spring Valley High School student, called into the Mike and Carla morning show on 96.3 KKLZ, to share her anger and concern. Her grandson wound up in ER, with second-degree burns, after a football practice earlier in the week.
Las Vegas High School Has Second-Degree Burns Due To Coaches Punishment
The coach allegedly punished players on the team, and it resulted in burns and blisters. Wendy said, “Punishment shouldn’t mean blisters and burns on your hands.” She went on to say that a coach shouldn’t make his team and students do something “that HE wouldn’t do!”
She said that one of the coaches allegedly punished the team for wearing their knee pads incorrectly. So they were told to crab walk across 50 yards of artificial turf at 104 degrees. And when the players complained about their hands on the hot turf, they were told to crawl back on their hands and knees.
Wendy said her grandson was severely burned. “He came home with second-degree burns on his hands, they were blistered and bandaged.” He went to urgent care, where they confirmed it – second-degree burns.
Now parents want to know why on earth their kids were pushed into doing that? Wendy said she wouldn’t allow her dog to walk on the hot turf these players had to crawl on.
Statements From School District And Spring Valley HS Principal
According to KSNV, Channel 3, Las Vegas, CCSD released this statement to them:
“The Clark County School District prioritizes student safety and well-being, and we are aware of the incident at Spring Valley High School. CCSD cannot comment on matters involving individual personnel. However, the District takes all complaints seriously and follows District procedures in any investigation.
Spring Valley High School principal Tara Powell, sent this letter to parents:
“We are aware of reports concerning activities at a recent football practice. While we cannot discuss the individual personnel matter due to privacy law, we do take all allegations seriously, and the District is working to ensure that policies and procedures are followed with any investigations, and the parties involved have been contacted.
Due to a lack of staffing, all football practices are canceled for today, Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
We understand how important athletics are to our student-athletes and will provide updates as to when practice can resume. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
