Help! I’m 30 And My Libido Is Already Changing
Can your libido drop at only 30 years old ? 30 seems super young – yes- but you were even younger two years ago when your libido was at its peak. Mark called into the show, to tell us when he was in a new relationship (at 28) with a new woman and everything was great, but now it takes him longer between one sex sesh to the next. Dr. Cooper told him that the energy and excitement and the oxytocin in his brain that was shooting all the way up in his 20s changed as he got older. After just two years with the same woman, things started to change as far as his libido went.
But it’s not a huge change. Maybe his refractory period used to be 10 minutes and now it’s 45. Still good. But it’s all very individual…your libido is your libido. Men in their 60s can have the sex drive they had in their 20s, but that’s not true everyone. It’s true for fewer and fewer men as they age.
WHAT IS LIBIDO, EXACTLY?
Libido is affected by your overall health, your lifestyle (do you sit at a desk all day? Do you work out?) This all impacts your refractory period …the time in between sexual encounters, when the brain releases hormones, like prolactin or oxytocin, and dopamine levels lower to promote rest and recovery. So, if you are depressed, that impacts it too.
At the age of thirty, many individuals experience changes in their libido, which is the term used to describe a person’s sex drive or desire for sexual activity. While there are many factors that can influence one’s libido, including physical and psychological health, hormonal imbalances, and lifestyle factors, reaching the age of thirty can also play a role in changes to one’s sexual desire.
For many people, their twenties are a time of sexual exploration and experimentation, and they may feel more sexually driven and adventurous during this time. However, as individuals approach their thirties, they may begin to feel a shift in their sexual desires, which can be influenced by a number of factors.
WOMEN’S LIBIDO
For women, the onset of their thirties can bring about changes in their hormonal balance as their bodies prepare for a shift in their reproductive system. This can lead to a decrease in estrogen production and a decrease in their libido. In addition, stress, exhaustion, and changes in their personal lives can also have an impact on their sexual desire.
MEN’S LIBIDO
For men, reaching the age of thirty can also bring about changes in their libido. Male sex drive peaks in your 20s and lowers by 30. While testosterone levels may still be high, some men may begin to experience a decrease in their sex drive due to other factors such as stress, anxiety, depression, or lifestyle changes such as a change in their relationship status or work environment.
Regardless of gender, it’s important to remember that changes in one’s libido are normal and can be influenced by a variety of factors. If you are experiencing a decrease in your sexual desire or other symptoms that concern you, it’s important to speak with a healthcare professional who can help identify any underlying issues and provide appropriate treatment options.
